The Ministry of Energy plans to launch a mega project, called TAFOUK1, for the realization of photovoltaic solar power plants with a total capacity of 4,000MW over the period 2020-2024.
It is the project which was presented Wednesday by the energy ministry Mohamed Arkab, at the time of the meeting of the government held in videoconference, where the minister evoked the launching of the project of realization of photovoltaic solar power stations for the production of l ‘electric energy.
The objective of this project is to meet the national demand for energy and to preserve our fossil resources, explains a press release from the Prime Minister. The project would also “position itself on the international market, via the export of electricity at a competitive price, as well as the export of know-how,” added the press release.
This project would require an investment of between 3.2 and 3.6 billion USD and should create 56,000 jobs during the construction phase and 2,000 jobs during the operation phase. The power plants to be built, which will be spread over ten wilayas, will mobilize a total surface area of around 6,400 hectares, the Minister of Energy said in his presentation.
Thus, the government will confirm with this project its will to move towards an energy transition which is at the heart of the government’s action plan for the coming years.
