Smithfield Foods pork processing plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has become the largest single-source outbreak in the United States. One worker has died in the factory.
The confirmed cases alone account for 44% of South Dakota. The plant is one of the largest pork processing plants in the United States, accounting for 4% to 5% of US pork production, and has a total of 3700 employees.
Smithfield also announced on the 15th that it will close two meat processing plants in Wisconsin and Missouri, respectively, due to the positive test of employees’ new coronavirus.
